Dear Diary,
yesterday was a good start, and I am not sore at all today, so I felt ready to knock it out of the park again.
Being a single dad with daycare being offline through the holidays sure does make discipline harder, but it is manageable if you can summon some patience and reason in your toddler, and if you just wake up early enough.
The leg did not like yesterday’s late-night cycling and treadmill, but I’ll get it disciplined again.
Being the data-freak that I am, I am starting the habit of auto-tracking progress again and one thing that has always rubbed me the wrong way is how Garmin is absolute garbage at tracking treadmill activity, especially with treadmill desks when your arms are at rest. So I bought an NPE Runn, and a Zwift runpod, arriving soon. These two in tandem should allow me to accurately track steps.
Let’s see how we did today.
Manageable Goals
As a reminder, the goals I have for myself this year are:
do something physically challenging every day
do something mentally challenging every day
try to walk 5+ km every day
stay below 75kg of weight
do 1 focused hour of at least one of the following activities every day:
ukulele practice
illustration
coding
reading
read two books per month and write a short review of each.
No rigid numbers, no too-hard-to-follow discipline. Just be better. Every day.
Resolutions, 2/365
✅ Physical challenge:
85 Pushups: 2 x 30, 1 x 25
3 min total dead hang
1 x 1min plank
30 min indoor cycling
✅ Mental challenge:
Wim Hof breathing
This is a mental challenge because it takes beating my resistance to the panic and discomfort. I had been having trouble justifying 30min for breathing, and this is something I need to defeat with routine.
Cold shower
Jesus christ this showerhead and frozen pipes make the showers ballcurdlingly cold. I don’t know how I am going to train myself for the ice plunge, but I welcome the challenge.
✅ Walk:
1.5km walk in town
1 hour / 3.5km walk on the treadmill, level
✅ Weight:
75kg
✅ Hour of Focus:
Coding. Well, wrestling with Framer.
Until next time!
